The first is an assignment requiring information from a book. Students can’t complete the assignment without having read the required pages. Essays without references to the book were returned to students to be revised.
This assignment also provides space for a student’s voice on the topic. Opportunities for voice seemed to matter a great deal in terms of the length of the material students submitted.
There are also two examples of completed assignments. The first is from a student in a job-training program. The second is from a community college student.
